Please note that this site will be shutting down as of March 31, 2023.

WeatherWatchers.ca is a free service that alerts you to watches and warnings of severe weather as issued by Environement Canada. These alerts can be sent to your email or cell phone as a text message.

The front page will show a map of any watches and warnings currently in effect in Canada. Red areas indicate warnings, yellow indicate areas with watches, and green indicates and area where a watch or warning has recently ended. The map uses Google Maps to allow you to zoom in or out. Hovering over an area will let you see the current alerts in place, and clicking on an area will give you further details. The map will refersh approximately every 15 minutes to give you an up to date view.

To have alerts go to your cell phone, you need to sign up with the email address of your phone. To determine this, you can visit the FAQ. Simply search for your provider in the list and determine your phone's email address. If you are having trouble determining your phone's email address, please don't hesitate to use the contact us link at the right.

Once you have an account, you should check your preferences. You can restrict alerts to only come in during certain hours.

Finally, you'll want to add sites. These are the areas in Canada you are interested in receiving notifications when Environment Canada issues a watch or warning for the area. Select the province or territory, and click the Change Province button. Select as many sites within the province as you like and use the arrow to move them to the box on the right. Be sure to click Update to save your changes.
